Saige's first word was Mama which she started to say around 7 months. She is currently saying Mama, Pop (for my father), car, up and uh oh (which is her newest thing). We actually worked on the word duck today which she started to imitate so we'll see how long it takes her to master the word.
She definitely knows what these words mean so when she says up she has her arms extended towards you so you can pick her up. Uh oh she hasn't quite mastered yet, she says it when she does everything, not just necessarily bad things which is really cute.
I read an interesting article the other day that says children around 10 months old start to point at everything. They are pointing b/c they want to express their interest to you but they don't have the words to actually call the item. The best thing to do right now, when they point at something, say the word and keep repeating it...soon enough they'll be able to just tell you what they want.
Will definitely keep you posted regarding any new words that Saige picks up!!
